Research direction:

1) Design and theory of large-scale public buildings such as healthcare architecture, education architecture, and transportation architecture;

2) Environmental behavior, ergonomics, complex science;

3) Theories and methods of healthcare facility planning, healing environment design, barrier-free design, etc.

Professor Zhou is mainly engaged in teaching, research and design in the fields of healthcare, education, transportation architecture, and focuses on environmental design for vulnerable groups such as patients, the elderly, and people with disabilities. Her recent research interests include crowd analysis, pedestrian simulation, scenario analysis, and case studies using methods from environmental behavior, ergonomics, and complex sciences. She has published more than 50 papers in journals and completed a number of architectural design projects.

Professor Zhou holds the Bachelor and Master Degrees from Southeast University, China and Ph.D. from The University of Tokyo, Japan, all in architecture. She was a JSPS postdoctoral fellow at National Institute of Public Health, Japan from 2004 to 2006.
